Rock Island Art Guild

The Rock Island Art Guild was founded in 1955. Members of the group are committed to supporting the visual arts in the community in various ways.

Rock Island Fine Arts Exhibition
This year the Rock Island Art Guild and Augustana College will co-sponsor the 32rd Annual Rock Island Fine Arts Exhibition which will be held in the Augustana College Art Museum April 5 – April 27. This juried competition is one of the largest juried competitions in the Midwest that is juried by one juror. The competition is open to artists 18 years of age and older, working in any medium except video, and residing within 150 miles of the Quad Cities. More than $2,500 in awards may be presented, including the Sally MacMillan Watercolor Award given in recognition of the founder of the co-sponsors, the Rock Island Art Guild. The 2008 Juror is Dr. David Alan Robertson, Director of the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art, Northwestern University.

Art Exhibits at the Library
The Art Guild sponsors three annual art exhibits at the Rock Island Public Library featuring art produced in the Rock Island Elementary, Junior High, and High Schools.

Scholarships
The group awards scholarships to high school students through Quad City Arts Annual High School Art Invitational.

Education
In the Fall of 2008 the group will implement a program within the Rock Island School System to provide Art Specialists in selected elementary classrooms.
